Should we publish our pricing approach so AI can describe it?

Publish your pricing approach even if you do not publish prices: how you charge, what drives the cost up or down, and what the first step costs the buyer. Without it, engines describe your pricing from whatever a directory or competitor says.

Effort: 3 to 4 hours

Who does it: Commercial lead, with marketing

Best for: B2B firms of 20 to 500 people

Evidence: Medium (6sense Buyer Experience Study, reported 30 November 2025)

01 / WHY IT MATTERS

Why it matters.

Buyers do much of their comparing before they speak to you. A summary of 6sense’s 2025 B2B Buyer Experience Study, published 30 November 2025, reports that buyers made first contact when they were 61% through their buying process, had filled four of five shortlist places on day one, and bought from their top-ranked vendor 77% of the time.

Cost is one of the first things they ask about. If your site is silent, the engine answers from somewhere else, or tells the buyer it cannot say, which is a reason to move on.

02 / SELF-CHECK

The 10-minute self-check.

Ask ChatGPT and Perplexity: “How much does [your company] charge for [your main service]?” Then check your site:

  • Does a page say how you charge (project, retainer, licence, per seat)?
  • Does it name what makes the cost go up or down?
  • Does it say what the first step is, and whether it is free?
  • Did either engine describe your pricing correctly?
03 / STEPS

Steps.

  1. Write down how you actually price: the model, the typical range of scope, and the main cost drivers.
  2. Decide what you will publish. A price range, a starting point, or only the approach and drivers are all valid.
  3. Publish it on a page or a clear section, in plain sentences an engine can quote.
  4. Describe the first step precisely: what it is, how long it takes, what it costs.
  5. Make your directory profiles say the same thing (play 20).

05 / MEASURE

How to measure it.

  • Engine answer: ask the pricing question monthly and check the description against your page.
  • Enquiry quality: share of enquiries that mention budget or scope correctly. Monthly.
  • Page engagement: GA4 engaged sessions on the pricing section. Monthly.
07 / SOURCES

Sources.
