Why it matters.
Peec AI analysed 30 million cited sources across ChatGPT, Google AI Mode, Gemini, Perplexity and AI Overviews in the US and reported in March 2026 that Reddit was the most-cited domain, followed by YouTube and LinkedIn.
Threads carry first-hand opinions about suppliers, which is exactly what a buyer asks an engine to summarise. Most communities also have strict rules against self-promotion, so the only approach that lasts is useful, disclosed participation.
The 10-minute self-check.
Search Google for:
site:reddit.com [your category] recommendations, and note which firms are mentioned.[your company] reddit, and read what is said about you, if anything.- The threads from the last twelve months: count mentions of you against your three main competitors.
Steps.
- Find three to five communities where your buyers ask questions: subreddits, Slack groups, LinkedIn groups, industry forums.
- Read each community’s rules before posting, and follow them.
- Post as a named person and disclose your affiliation. Answer the question fully; add a link only when it genuinely helps.
- Never use fake accounts, paid upvotes or planted questions.
- Where your company is discussed, reply once, factually, and leave it.
- Log every thread you take part in, with the date.
Community work sits alongside the other third-party plays in our AI search visibility work.

How to measure it.
- Share of mentions: threads naming you against named competitors, quarterly.
- Tone: positive, neutral or negative, per thread.
