Why it matters.
Engines build answers mostly from pages about you, not by you (play 35). Contributions to independent sites are one of the few ways to add to those pages yourself.
Google drew the line on 19 November 2024: publishing third-party pages “in an attempt to abuse search rankings” breaks its site reputation abuse policy, and “no amount of first-party involvement alters the fundamental third-party nature of the content”. Contribute where the content is genuinely editorial and relevant. We grade this play Early: no study yet isolates contributions and AI answers.
The 10-minute self-check.
List every article, podcast, webinar or quote from your firm in the last twelve months. For each:
- Is it on a site your buyers actually read?
- Does it name your company, with the same name and description as your site?
- Does it carry a fact or example only you could have supplied?
Steps.
- Pick two or three topics where you hold first-hand data or results.
- Pitch the publications, newsletters and podcasts your buyers use, not the ones that sell placements.
- Bring one dated fact or worked example to every piece.
- Keep the byline consistent: person, role, company name.
- Avoid guest-post marketplaces and any site that charges for “editorial” articles.
- Log every piece with its URL and date.
Contributions are planned with the other third-party plays in our AI search visibility work.

How to measure it.
- Output: contributions published per quarter on target sites.
- Consistency: share that name you exactly as your site does.
- Engine pick-up: contribution URLs in source panels for your panel questions.
