Do our service pages say plainly who we are, what we sell and who it is for?

Each service page should say, in its title and first two sentences, what the service is, who it is for and where you deliver it. Engines match plain wording to buyers’ questions. Slogans give them nothing to match.

Effort: 1 to 2 hours per page

Who does it: Marketing lead or copywriter

Best for: B2B firms of 20 to 500 people

Evidence: Strong (Ahrefs, 15 April 2026)

01 / WHY IT MATTERS

Why it matters.

Ahrefs analysed which pages ChatGPT cites and reported on 15 April 2026 that the titles of cited pages were measurably closer in meaning to the prompt than the titles of pages it retrieved but did not cite (cosine similarity 0.602 against 0.484). Pages with natural-language URL slugs were cited at 89.78%, against 81.11% for those without.

In plain terms: a page titled “Payroll software for UK manufacturers” is easier to match to a buyer’s question than one titled “Powering what’s next”.

02 / SELF-CHECK

The 10-minute self-check.

Open your three most important service pages and check each one:

  • The title names the service in the words a buyer would use.
  • The first two sentences say who it is for and where.
  • The URL is readable words, not an ID or a code.
  • Each heading could stand alone as an answer to a buyer’s question.

Two or more misses on a page puts it at the top of the rewrite list.

03 / STEPS

Steps.

  1. Write the buyer’s version of each service name, from sales calls and Search Console queries.
  2. Rewrite each page title and H1 to that name, plus the buyer type or market where it matters.
  3. Rewrite the first two sentences to answer: what it is, who it is for, what changes for them.
  4. Turn vague headings (“Our approach”) into specific ones (“How the first 30 days work”).
  5. Keep one page per service. If two pages chase the same buyer question, merge them.

If the pages need rebuilding rather than rewording, our B2B website development team plans the structure around these questions.

05 / MEASURE

How to measure it.

  • Search Console: impressions and queries per service page. Monthly; look for queries that match the new titles.
  • Engine description: does each engine describe your services in your words? Monthly.
  • Title audit: share of service pages passing the four checks. Quarterly.
07 / SOURCES

Sources.

  • Ahrefs, Why ChatGPT cites some pages and not others, 15 April 2026.
  • Prolinkage AI self-test (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overview, one run each), 6 November 2026.
  • Prolinkage change log: service page calls to action (site-fix-pack-03), 6 November 2026.
